Artist Biography

My creative work to date has focused on an exploration of the relationship between sound, film, and data, alongside the use of art, to make data and technology an accessible interest. This is in direct response to the growing requirement for digital data archaeology and conservation, a need which is becoming vastly apparent due to the blossoming digital age.

In my varied and diverse approach to creative work, I have created a collection of audio pieces which use a wide range of technology including code manipulation, procedural generation, Arduino integration, microsound, and sonification. I seek to encourage audiences who engage with my work to assess their relationship with digital technology and the role it holds within our lives, whilst offering the opportunity to use human creativity as a means to collaborate with the ‘coldness’ of digital work. My work embraces the glitch and microsound movement which was pioneered by artists such as Ryoji Ikeda and Alva Noto.

Alongside my work within sound art, I have also worked with a wide range of immersive technology. I have created film work as seen at Grand Narrative, augmented reality experiences for Manchester artist Jo Clements, video game audio for The University of Salford, conversion of hydrogen telescope data into music for a live orchestra in real time for SKAO at Jodrell Bank, lightning data into generative composition for a live drummer for Mishka Henner and Sounds of the Other City, and a virtual reality sound design library in collaboration with indigenous tribes within southern Brazil. I am currently producing an audio drama based around folk legend and cults.

My work ranges from the context of live exhibition, for example an exhibtion at Islington Mill and an exhibition at TED x Salford, to performance, ie. performing live at Peel Hall. I also operate as a Castlefield Gallery Graduate Scholar award winner and an alumni of the University of Salford.

In my broader practice I have created music for a Royal Television Society North West Best Animation winning short film ‘Wild Rides’, create audio systems for cultural heritage, and write long form essay pieces about the sociology of video games and immersive technology. I also provide support to artists across the North-West within a technical consultant role.
